My name is Carol North. I became a writer early in life. I recall being five years old and building a
"fort" with the books from my mother's bookcase. As I walked gingerly
on top of the stacks of books I said, "When I grow up, I'm gonna be a
writer." By eight years old, I was actively pursuing my chosen career. I
wrote plays, designed the sets, and convinced the neighborhood kids to play the
parts. We then invited the moms to watch the plays, and charged them a few
pennies to attend our productions.
I put my dreams of a writing career on hold while
having and raising my family. When my youngest left home, I floundered
about for more than a year wondering who and what I was. I was divorced, no one
needed me anymore, and I rarely heard "Hey, Mom."
One day the fog cleared out of my brain and I said, "I'm all grown up now. It's time to became a writer." Through a
bit of good luck I found my first job in the field of writing, as an editor for
a regional trade magazine. Career growth was fast and included technical
writing assignments on both coasts and in the Midwest. (For details, visit my nonfiction-related web site at www.carol-north.com.) The left side of my brain was
well-fed and happy. Thanks for visiting, |
